In order to enroll at Honey Creek, students must reside in the Washtenaw Intermediate School District Area.
Students who were enrolled in Honey Creek Community School at the end of the immediately preceding school year shall be allowed to re-enroll in Honey Creek in the following school year. Siblings of currently enrolled Honey Creek students have priority for admission. New students shall be considered for admission to Honey Creek on a first come, first served basis, unless there are more applications for enrollment than there are spaces available. In recent years there have routinely been more applicants than available spaces and admission has been through a random selection lottery.
January Enrollment Meetings
The enrollment process begins when prospective parents attend one of the required school enrollment meetings authorized by the director so that they can have any questions answered before receiving an enrollment application. Two enrollment meetings are held each January. Application forms are distributed at the end of each of the January enrollment meetings. Please contact our office for the scheduled meeting dates and times.
It is very important to Honey Creek Community School that parents view and understand our school to make an informed choice in deciding if Honey Creek is the best school for their child.
Open Enrollment Period
Once parents have attended one of the required January enrollment meetings and received an enrollment application, they must then submit the completed application by US mail. To be eligible for the open enrollment lottery, applications must be United States postmarked between February 1 – February 15.
Applications for open enrollment will be accepted during this period only. Qualified applications will then be randomly pulled in a lottery to fill the openings at each grade level. Families will be notified of their acceptance status in March.
After admission to Honey Creek
Once admitted to Honey Creek, the child and parent(s) are required to spend a morning in the classroom together with Honey Creek teachers, students and parents. This getting-acquainted session helps to further the prospective enrollee family’s understanding of the Honey Creek philosophy and curriculum.
The deadline for this class room orientation visit is May 1.
Families who are not granted immediate admission through the lottery are placed on a grade-level waiting list. From time to time openings occur later in the process – either before or after the start of the fall semester. When openings occur, Honey Creek administrators contact waitlisted families to offer them the opportunity to enroll.
