  • Students will follow the design process from start to finish. They will begin by brainstorming ideas for three-dimensional objects they would like to build. Students will then complete sketching exercises designed to refine and elaborate on their idea.

After sketches are complete, students will begin to model their object in Google Sketchup. Finally, they will print out 3-view templates from their Sketchup files and use these templates to build scale-accurate models using a variety of tools and materials. Tools will include razor knives, hot-wire foam cutters, and scissors. Materials will include cardboard, paper, styrofoam, and plastic.

  • In this course, students will learn how to use the computer to create amazing visuals and interact with physical devices. We’ll start by learning the basics of the Processing environment, including syntax, commands, and structures. Students will write many different programs in Processing, building their skills and knowledge of the different abilities provided by the environment.

Once students have a solid knowledge of Processing, the Arduino microprocessor board will be introduced and students will have an opportunity to use physical devices like knobs and sensors to interact with the computer. A final project integrating Processing with the Arduino will conclude the class.
